Ponniyin Selvan: I (also known as Son of Ponni) is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language epic period action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam, who also co-wrote it with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. It is the first of two films based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan, produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah through Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R. Parthiban are among the cast members. A. R. Rahman composed the music, Ravi Varman shot the film, A. Sreekar Prasad edited it, and Thota Tharani designed the production. Ponniyin Selvan: I tell the story of Arulmozhivarman, who would go on to become Chola emperor Rajaraja I (947-1014).
